At Black Flag Scuba, the ocean isn’t just a place we go—it’s where we come from. Our story is one of saltwater in our veins, a lifelong love for adventure, and a legacy built beneath the waves.

It all began with my grandfather, Pete Callaway, a pioneer of recreational scuba diving in the 1970s and 1980s. In San Diego, he built a successful dive business, introducing thousands of people to the wonders of the deep. But he didn’t just teach people how to dive—he taught them how to embrace adventure, to explore the unknown, and to respect the ocean as both a playground and a way of life.

That passion was passed down to his son, Pete Callaway II, who continued the tradition and instilled it in his five sons—including me founder of Black Flag Scuba, Gabe Callaway. We grew up in the water, not just learning to swim but learning to live in harmony with the sea. Whether it was freediving, sailing, surfing, or scuba diving, we spent our lives answering the call of the ocean.
